Purrthday card with party hats

I seem to be needing and endless supply of birthday cards so for this edition of the Inky Paws challenge, I went with a birthday theme.

I first stamped and heat embossed the party hats in white. I then used Distress Inks Mustard seed, Spiced marmalade and Picked raspberry and sponged the background. I diecut two pieces of white cardstock and the distressed panel with a stiched rectangle from Lawn Fawn. I popped up the two white pieces with foam tape. I stamped the kitties on Britstol smooth card stock and colored them in with Zig clean color real brush markers. Some Wink of Stella for the ribbon and bag. I used a stiched circle and a sentiment stamped on to black cardstock to ground the kitties a bit better.

I seem to be needing and endless supply of birthday cards so for this edition of the Inky Paws challenge, I went with a birthday theme.

I first stamped and heat embossed both the balloon in white. I then used Distress Inks Mustard seed, Spiced marmalade and Picked raspberry and sponged the background. I then diecut that piece together with two white pieces to get one single frame. I stamped the kitty on Britstol smooth card stock and colored him in with Zig clean color real brush markers. Some Wink of Stella for the pink ribbon. To ground the kitty a bit better I cut a stiched circle and framed him and also let him stand on the sentiment which is white heat embossed on black cardstock.

Penguin party

I wanted to participate in Lawn Fawnatics latest challenge which is Black, white and bright and immediately thought of the penguin stamp set to use. However, that is a winter themed one and I couldn't really think of a way to make it in to spring/summer so I simply went with holiday theme and a real penguin party!

I stamped the images on to water color cardstock and colored them in with Zig clean color real brush markers. The tree is a solid stamp so that is stamped with Twisted citron Distress ink and the stump is colored with a brown Zig. The background is done with distress inks and some masking. I did the rays with a Tim Holtz stencil and sponging. Then I heat embossed with Holographic embossing powder. I finished of the sky with some Nuvo glitter drops.

Putting winner stamps from Lavinia to good use =)

During this past weekend I was attending a scrap event (Stockholm Hobby and Craft event) and had the luck to win a couple of stamps from Lavinia Stamps. Tonight I got to play with them. I borrowed the design from my table neighbour at the event and she was also the one who got me hooked on the "chunky white embossing powder". What effects you can get with that! Will be coming very handy as snow for Christmas cards. You do however have to look out since you heat your project from below (otherwise you'll blow the powder off) but I wasn't looking hard enough so all of a sudden I saw smoke coming from my project. It was ok though... need to look out more next time *big smile*

So here are my two projects, same design, different colors. I used Bristol Smooth cardstock for blending the background. My first time testing it. I must say that the blending is quite smooth but it is definately easier on the cardstock I normally use. Here the colors just keep gliding around. Hard to get the intensity I was looking for. Anyway, more practise needed.

I used Picked raspberry, Dusty Concord, Black soot and Scattered straw distress inks for the left one and Salty ocean, Blueprint sketch, Chipped Saphire, Black soot and Scattered straw for the right one.

My favorite. The square stiched die is from Gummiapan.

Was a bit too generous with the embossing powder here but...wiser until the next time.

Trying out patterned paper

Inky Paws challenge #46 is a sketch challenge;

I wanted to play along and decided to try out some patterned paper I've been wanting to use from Jillibean Soup. Needless to say, I need more practise in how to pick colors/patterned paper but anyway, here it goes;

The bow ended up being that ball of yarn. Newton is cute anyway ;)

Mother's day card recreation

I saw this card today on the Lawn Fawn blog created by Nichol Spohr and just had to recreate it;

I had already stamped and colored a bunch of images from the Lawn Fawn stamp set Mom + me  and just hadn't decided on my layout yet. So I decided to use the same basic layout as on the card above but with the stuff that I had on hand.

I started by sponging on Distress inks Picked raspberry and Scattered straw and blended them together on some Bristol Smooth cardstock. I then also cut a stiched circle with my MFT dies and did the same to that. I spritzed it all with a little water and blotted it dry to create that cool mottled effect.

To get some interest going in the background, I diecut the panel with a Lawn Fawn stiched rectangle die and also used an embossing folder from Darice with bubbles. For the white scalloped circle I used Lawn Fawn dies. The banner I made on my own with simple white cardstock.

I stamped the greeting "Happy" and Mothers day and also colored the Happy with 2 colors of Zig clean color real brush markers. Everything is mounted flush to the background except for the banner which is mounted with foam tape. I finished off with some Liquid pearls for the centers of the flowers.

Never too old to play

I had stamped and colored several images from the "Newton Unwinds" stamp set and wanted to create some cards with them. I was surfing on Pinterest and came across this great layout and thought I would do something like that. After having colored Newton on the big ball of yarn with Zig clean color real brush markers, I created the background by doing some ink smooshing on a piece of old packaging. I smooshed Distress inks Shaded lilac, Spun sugar and Picked raspberry, sprayed it with some water and lay the transparency over the paper (Tim Holtz watercolor paper). I did that twice to get the coverage I wanted. After it had dried, I borrowed some of my daughters watercolor. She has a gorgeous gold glitter color in her set *smile*. I flicked that on to my background and then let it dry.

I wanted to create a diecut inlay frame and was thinking about maybe turning the whole thing into a shaker card. After die cutting the frame with the "Wonky stiched rectangle" from MFT, I decided to go for the shaker. I cut a rectangle in the middle with Hero Arts rectangle dies and then mounted the inside piece on a black card base. I also heat embossed the sentiment on to a banner that I cut with flag ends.

I then realized I needed some additional pieces so I stamped the yarn ball a couple of times and colored them and cut it out and glued them to the inside piece as well. (Note to self; Must get those dies to this stamp set, fuzzy cutting some of these images is hard!! *big smile*).

Then I glued Newton onto the frame which I had covered with a transparency. I lined the frame with two layers of foam tape. And now for the good part, picking what contents to have for your shaker. I choose some dark pink star confetti and some purple and irridescent sequins.

This is then the final result;

I used quite a lot of contents in my shaker since the area is quite large.

If you shake it behind Newton, you can see the 3 balls of yarn.

The sentiment really fits well here since this card will be going to an adult, shaking that shaker, you will feel more like a kid =)

Embracing that inner kitten

I had colored some of the stamps in the Newton Unwinds stamp set and wanted to use them on a card. I didn't know what background to go for and tried several options. In the end I decided to heat emboss a couple of images in the background and then using Distress inks to color it. I used Salty ocean, Peacock feathers, Dusty concord and a little Chipped saphire. Love these colors together, have mainly created night skies with them before though.

The kitties are then foam mounted onto the back panel.

Pawsome day

Playing with my Lawn Fawn "Meow you doin'?" stamp set again as well as the Lawn Fawn window die and grassy border die.

The wall was made by just doing scoring lines in even intervals.The rest is mounted fairly flush to the card base except for the box of flowers which is mounted with foam tape.

Hmm, this last image completely "erased" the score lines on the red "wall". Weird... Anyway, now you see it from the front without the shadows of the window frame.
